The process for submitting video content to station for playback is integrated into an online submission process. As producers submit video content, they provide the metadata through an easy-to-use webform. This metadata makes video content searchable on the Internet. Once submitted, the Open Media Project tools automatically create playback and web-quality video formats either locally or at Internet Archive. Producers have the ability to share their content on a global platform by licensing their content with Creative Commons. The OMP tools also facilitate content sharing among stations, exchanging video content from one location to another on demand through a shared media repository at Internet Archive.

Community-Driven Scheduling |
The Open Media Project tools dynamically create program schedules based on rules defined by the station, putting the community in charge of program scheduling. This model encourages community members to get their friends and neighbors to view and vote for their shows in order to receive more visibility on the local cable TV station. Scheduling rules can be based on viewer votes, website views, show language, show theme, program length or any other information that is programmatically provided through the metadata collection process. Viewers can vote for video content online or via SMS text message.

MERCI, a stand alone Drupal module, allows users to reserve equipment, resources and facilities based on assigned permissions and staff to manage equipment inventory and availability. Providing these functions online gives users the ability to manage their own use of resources without the limitation of staff availability. By integrating with a constituent relationship management solution, such as CiviCRM or Salesforce, the Open Media Tools can limit access based on membership type, membership status, certifications or other stored information.
